Homes fill with yellow mai blossoms and kumquat trees, banana-leaf-wrapped bánh chưng steams overnight, and the family watches who walks through the door first after midnight, because that first footstep sets the luck for the whole year. Then come the lì xì envelopes and a table built entirely around prosperity.
