In the Gulf, Eid means the smell of harees and machboos drifting from the kitchen, luqaimat fried golden and drizzled with date syrup, and gahwa poured for every guest who steps into the majlis. After the dawn prayer, men in crisp white kanduras and children clutching their Eidiyah move from house to house in a long day of hospitality.
